I am living my life in six-minute intervals. I am listening to a ticking cuckoo clock and watching animated punks attempt to smash androids with mallets. I am listening to snippets of polka music. Over and over again. And there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

Everyday you read about Advertising's impending doom as clients bounce from agency to agency looking for the right solution for their brand. You also notice in the trade blogs how top Creatives everywhere are jumping ship to form their own boutique shops or what ever the trend du jour is at the moment. (Crowd Sourcing)
Being as most of PROD4ever has worked or been a part of the Music Industry it's easy to see the similarities in where the future of the industry is headed. Brands just like Artists and Musicians are given the tools to manage their own careers and eliminate the middleman (Labels and Agencies) from the equation.
For us in the Creative field, we are all becoming something of specialists and offering niche services. Brand planners, Media Buyers, Creatives, and Designers all are still needed in the process. The only difference is the people at the top who's bloated salaries are what is killing agencies are no longer needed. That talented kid in Ames Iowa can create an incredible viral piece just as well as some megalomaniac ad man from Madison Avenue.
Brands are becoming wiser and more frugal with their budgets as they realize that it doesn't cost 2 million dollars to make a 60 second spot anymore. I'm sure some of the dinosaurs of the Ad World will argue that the work suffers with the diminishing budgets. Maybe so if ones idea of awesome is James Cameron Avatar or recreating Ben Hur.
For us in the Digital world who's budgets have always been an after thought to that of Television, we have always worked with limited resources. The joy of what we do has always been in the power of our imagination and ideas.
Now that the rest of the world has caught up we are seeing that the only real currency in our industry is those ideas. While agencies will argue that they hire the best and brightest, it sure is a lot easier to get a great idea out into the world. I think now more than ever it's a great time to be that Specialist, insurgent, freelancer, free thinker and renegade.

Saw this on Gizmodo yesterday. Great use of design and functionality. At PROD we have recently gotten back into Vinyl collecting and this is just more proof that records are here to stay.
